Please join us for the presentation, "Peace in the Home, Peace in the Nation: Conceptions of Justice for Rural Women of Northern Uganda” by Jennifer Moore, Professor, UNM Law School. For Decades, Uganda has been wracked by a rebel insurgency led by Joseph Kony's Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), which has resorted to kidnapping and forcing children from Southern Sudan and Northern Uganda. These children have been forced to commit crimes against their home communities, leaving much of the traditional African social fabric in disarray. This talk explores the roots of this conflict as well as its social impact. It further examines efforts by women in Northern Uganda to reconceptualize and implement a judicial system that is appropriate to the region.
The Fall 2019 Series is supported in part by a grant from the New Mexico Humanities Council, the National Endowment for the Arts and the University of New Mexico World Affairs Delegation
