Location: UNM Student Union, Room Lobo A
Please join us for a presentation on “Healthcare and Structural Violence in Post-Colonial Africa” by Dr. Jamal Martin, Professor, UNM Africana Studies. Since independence, much of Africa has struggled with an inadequate healthcare infrastructure, resulting in widespread medical crises -- from HIV/AIDS to Ebola outbreaks that have been addressed in a haphazard manner. Dr. Martin's talk examines the paucity of healthcare service providers in post-colonial Africa through the lens of structural violence. He will also address the question of if and how this type of violence can be addressed.
The Fall 2019 Series is supported in part by a grant from the New Mexico Humanities Council, the National Endowment for the Arts and the University of New Mexico World Affairs Delegation
