Please join us for the presentation of “Defining and Aiding ‘the Namibian Refugee’: A History of the Chaplaincy to Namibians, 1974-76.” Dr. Christan Williams, Senior Lecturer in Anthropology, the University of the Free State, South Africa.Nambia in southern Africa has been witness to some of the most horrific acts of violence against humanity while under German control from the 1880s-1919 and then under the Apartheid regime of South Africa. Dr. Williams' talk examines the history of violence in Nambia, including the protracted civil war for independence that ended in the 1990s. He will further address efforts at reconciliation among the nation's sizable displaced refugee population.
