Must Interests Always Trump Values?
The perennial tension between Interests, or the big I, and
values, or the big V, in American foreign policy has been the
starkest in the Middle East, especially since the Arab Spring
nearly five years ago.
The talk will discuss the key demands that drove the Arab
upheavals five years ago, the regime-driven counter-revolution
and sectarianism, and the ensuing US policy. The presentation
will also address the changing geography of terrorism and the
rise of ISIS in the region since the Arab Spring.
